"Barcelona vista del Besòs" is the culmination of the seldom seen collaboration between a photographer and a geographer, and the result is a unique “city portrait”. The project, carried out between Barcelona and Paris, is a testimony to the transformation that the eastern sea front underwent at the beginning of the 21st century, as seen from the city’s outskirts, from the Besòs river, to the centre. The earliest photographs date back to 1999 while the latest were taken in 2007. According to Joan Roca, the work, which aims “to construct a locally-based vision, without it being “localist”, is a way of contributing to a new perception of what is “local” and “global”.
