Between 1921-1930 Barcelona rolled out its project to become a metropolitan city, the eagerly awaited great Barcelona, symbol of modernity. It had to do so, however, first of all, against a backdrop of a violent and restless social climate, and secondly, under threat from a generalised repression from the political regime. Modernity and dictatorship: two terminologies with very little in common that had to live side by side. These ten years are essential to understand the city today, auguring a new future full of new contradictions that the citizens of Barcelona would struggle to overcome.
