Towards the end of the 19th century it was considered almost magical that wood could be moulded into shapes that stayed that way. Curved wooden furniture became all the rage throughout Europe, and Catalonia was no exception, where furniture was either imported or made by national manufacturers. Today in the 21st century, it is furniture fashioned from rattan that is gaining popularity in our homes and public spaces. This book takes a look at several pieces of this furniture from the Museum’s collection and considers the ductile properties of their materials.
