In Barcelona there are over 4,700 socio-economic initiatives inspired by the values of equality and self-management. These initiatives are symbols of social and solidarity economy in the city: economic and social movements. In neighbourhoods such as Sants, Poble-sec, Poblenou, Horta and Barceloneta the social and solidarity economy movement functions on a community level, coordinated in the form of cooperative ecosystems. This diverse and responsive movement is a growing phenomenon in Barcelona, socioeconomic policy that is transforming the city into a place of economic redistribution, equality and democracy.
