Manel Gausa de Mas started out as a drama student at the Institut del Teatre and throughout his life he has combined his acting career with photography. His first significant photographs were the ones he took of the neighbourhood of Somorrostro, dating from 1958, at a time when entering the neighbourhood with a camera was frowned upon by the authorities.
