Voreres, la memòria subtil

Author/s
Frederic Perers

In 1979 a new way of identifying the names of Barcelona’s streets was introduced which is still in use today, that of attaching name plaques to the façades of buildings. It replaced the old method, which was to engrave the names on the actual pavements, introduced forty years earlier, and that had fallen into a state of disrepair. This meant that for a time, the streets were named twice and this unusual phenomenon of juxtaposed names and times is the focal point of this work. It also looks at other aspects, such as the paving of Barcelona’s streets today and the changes that street names have undergone over the last hundred years.
