Reading clubs

General book clubs can cover a wide range of genres, periods, cultures and registers. The idea is to get a group of people together who are interested in literature in all its guises and keen to share their experiences, thoughts and feelings.

How can I take part in a club?

To become a book club member, you just need to put your name down at the library. We will get in touch with you later about the first meeting.

We will give priority to the residents of the district each library is in and people who do not currently go to any book club.

Those people who have taken part in a book club in the last two years can only sign up for one in the week before it starts, providing there are still places available. If anyone does not go to 80% of the sessions, their place will go to someone on the waiting list.

This autumn the book clubs return to Barcelona's libraries. Over 1,200 readers have already decided to share the pleasure of reading with other readers.

What are book clubs?

Groups of people interested in reading books and discussing them together, led by an expert. Each club meets monthly for about an hour and a half. Readers get a variety of reading material.

Who are they aimed at?

Mainly people who like reading, making friends and chatting with the excuse of an interesting book.

What are the aims?

To encourage reading and dialogue.
To offer people new ways of enjoying their free time.
To encourage people to use and discover this cultural amenity.
To create a meeting point for people interested in reading.
To raise awareness of different cultural and social settings.
To propose a basic reading guide.
To encourage a more critical approach to the different literary genres.
To introduce participants to the specialist collections of the libraries where the clubs are held.
