The “Nits al Castell” (“Nights at the Castle”) series returns on Friday nights to the parade ground for the third year. For three nights in June, the Castle will be transformed into a place where you may enjoy artistic performances, taste the culinary delights of the travelling food caravans and enjoy nighttime views of the city from the Castle terrace Access to the activities and to the rest of the premises will be free of charge starting at 8 pm. Starting at 10 pm, the Castle will provide a free shuttle bus service to Plaça d’Espanya.

Ateneu Popular 9 Barris offers a big circus show based on the classic “Combinats de Circ” that arose from the facility, seeking a fleeting encounter between different circus artists and courageous direction by Jorge Albuerne and Ramiro Vergaz, members of the Ateneu’s circus commission. “Combinat 53” will bring artists from many circus disciplines to the parade ground, from acrobats to trapeze performers, including the best to have passed through the Ateneu Popular.

“The Last Cabaret” is a multidisciplinary work of art that confronts human beings with death through a “ready made” collection of 12 coffins redesigned to give them a new metaphorical use and an interactive performance where the public can experience each Cabaret Coffin and its poetic process firsthand. Each coffin reflects on a life issue differently: time, vanity, the expiation of guilt, the life journey, chance, love and heartbreak, rebirth, transcending death, life as an adventure, the feeling that any time in the past was better, hedonism and the banquet of life, carpe diem and more. The purpose of “The Last Cabaret” is to break the taboo of death, even beyond physical death, accepting it as something intrinsic to human beings. We must die to be born.

To close the Nits al Castell 2017 series, The Excitements will bring their high-voltage rhythm and soul to the parade ground (pati d’armes) of the Castle of Montjuïc. The Excitements are a group from Barcelona with three LPs under their belt that have travelled many kilometres on the road worldwide. The band will descend on the Castle like a steamroller. The rhythm section is the structure under which the guitars roar, the horns howl and Koko’s voice and hypnotic movements triumph. You can’t afford to miss this finale. It will be epic!
