The Frederic Marès Foundation displays the collector’s papers

These days at the Frederic Marès Foundation, you can visit not only its magnificent works and collections in the permanent exhibition but also a show that brings to light the bibliographic, document and image collections related to the sculptor and collector Frederic Marès (Portbou, Alt Empordà, 1893 – Barcelona, 1991). It is entitled Papers de col•leccionista (Collector’s Papers) and is housed in the Foundation’s study-library.

The exhibition deliberately dovetails with the 500th anniversary of the arrival of King Charles V to Barcelona and includes documents related to reliefs from the series devoted to the monarch’s visits to the capital of Catalonia, a work commissioned to the sculptor by the Barcelona City Council in 1958, as well as an original manuscript signed by the king himself.

The show Papers de col•leccionista is part of the Estiu als Museus (Summer at the Museums) programme and will remain open until 29 September. The Foundation is open Tuesday to Saturdays from 10 am to 7 pm and Sundays and holidays from 11 am to 8 pm. For more information, check this link.
