Given by prestigious literary professionals, the master’s degree also offers the opportunity to attend masterclasses by contemporary writers. The authors to have shared their knowledge include Sergi Pàmies, Javier Cercas, Josep Maria Benet i Jornet, Antonio Orejudo, Eduardo Mendoza, Quim Monzó and Juan Marsé.
The Master’s Degree in the Theory of Literature and Compared Literature given by Universitat de Barcelona provides advanced knowledge on current Literary Theory and on the relationship between literature and other areas of art and culture. One of the goals of the master’s degree is for students to acquire critical thought and their own discourse regarding modernity, contemporaneity and the idea of Europe and its cultural identity.
The Master's in Books and Literature for Children and Youth at the Autonomous University of Barcelona is organized by the GRETEL research group and has the collaboration of the Banco del Libro. Starting in 2005, the Master's Degree aims to unite efforts, reach consensus criteria and promote research across the Ibero-American area. Its distance learning system (or with a face-to-face week in Barcelona) facilitates a common horizon of training for book and child and youth education professionals.
Once you stop learning, you start dying. This quote and this mentality was the driving force behind the creation, in 1980, of the Aules d'Extensió Universitària per a la Gent Gran de Barcelona. Since then, this non-profit organisation offers conferences, courses, seminars, trips and cultural excursions to the over fifty-fives who wish to continue education and learning. The wide range of knowledge provided by the AULES – AUGGBCN university outreach classrooms for the elderly includes courses on literature, philology, linguistics, history, cinema and philosophy.
