The street with the thousand shops

Barrio Gótico is one of the most charismatic areas in Barcelona. Its tradition as the city's old town and its continually growing personality make up this centre of great social and commercial activity. Barna Centre, this neighbourhood's traders association, was born in 1973 out of an initiative that stemmed from a group of traders worried about regenerating the neighbourhood, as well as their will to promote its historic potential. That primary association has now become a federation that groups together the 18 associations of traders of the 25 streets and squares in this neighbourhood. The area boasts over a thousand shops that take up nearly 60,000 square metres and employ 4,000 people.
