The Cor d’Horta i Mercat opts for sustainable, green commerce

The Cor d’Horta i Mercat shopping hub has launched a new campaign to promote the awareness of sustainable green practices. The effort to encourage environmentally-friendly commerce promoted establishments that are committed to sustainable practices among residents of the Horta-Guinardó district. As part of the campaign, the first Green Awareness Fair was held on 1 April.

This new project of the shopping hub of the Cor d’Horta i Mercat aims to raise awareness about the importance of sustainable trade. The first step taken by the campaign was to use stickers to identify establishments engaged in the community and that show respect for the environment, based on their products and services.

So, what does it mean to have ‘green awareness’? From this week on, citizens will be able to find out more about initiatives by shops participating in the campaign, via the shopping hub’s website. Recycling activities, promoting accessibility, the sale of ecological and allergen-free products, and the reduction of energy consumption are among the good practices being highlighted in this project.

To encourage sustainable shopping, establishments participating in the campaign gave away reusable paper bags to customers.

The 1st Green Awareness Fair

The first Green Awareness Fair took place on Saturday 1 April as part of the campaign by the Cor d’Horta i Mercat shopping hub. The event promoted the sale of sustainable products and services, such as organic, local, bulk, fair trade, recycled and second-hand products.

However, the campaign to raise awareness about sustainable green trade doesn’t end there. Throughout the year, there will be a series of social, educational and health-related talks open to both traders and residents in the district. Check out the schedule here.
