Take part in the meeting about the future of Barcelona’s shopping hubs

When

16/3/2017

The Department of Commerce at Barcelona City Council and the IESE Business School are organising a meeting entitled "The future of shopping hubs: from local commerce to integrated urban economic development" on 21 and 29 March and 3 May. Over the three days, participants at the meetings will be discussing how to address the transition of shopping hubs into Areas of Urban Economic Promotion (APEUs) and reflecting on the model for management and participation.

The meetings are intended as a shared starting point with the retail sector on the creation of APEUS, which the Councillor’s Office for Commerce and Markets is firmly working towards. So anyone who attends will be able to make the most of a space for debating, raising awareness, training and reaching agreements and take part in two workshops and a workshop on conclusions and knowledge-spreading.

The first workshop, planned for 21 March, will look at the transition from shopping hub to Area of Urban Economic Promotion model and analyse the benefits of being a part of one for social and economic players in the city. The second workshop, planned for 29 March, will focus on the debate around the management and participation model for APEUs and the involvement of major brands. The workshops will finally conclude on 3 May, with a session on the future of commerce and APEU self-management models, to be attended by experts.

The three days should provide an in-depth look at the challenges facing the urban economy and the implementation of models of governance which allow for the self-management of shopping areas in the city, making them more competitive, accessible and attractive.
