The First Deputy Mayor, Gerardo Pisarello, explained that the results of the report demonstrate the city’s solid position and reputation, which is as it should be, but also show an improvement in quality of life for residents.

Barcelona has to be a socially cohesive and friendly urban city, because that’s fairer and because in economic terms it’s very important to keep attracting the global talent that we’re after and also to keep our own”, stated Pisarello,

Good results in all areas

The study, jointly produced with Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, puts the city at the forefront in spheres such as global competitiveness, scientific production and security. It also highlights the capacity to attract foreign investment and the city’s strength as a tourist destination for leisure and congress sectors alike.

For the second year running the report includes a survey on the business climate in the metropolitan area. The survey shows that despite the signs of an economic downturn in the fourth quarter of 2017, the business sector was confident during that period and is positive about the prospects for 2018.
