Creating the bathroom of the future: the jumpthegap contest now open for project submissions

jumpthegap® the international design contest sponsored by Roca and organized by BCD Barcelona Design Center in collaboration with bathroom design house Roca,  has been open for project submissions since October 10. Participants have been asked to present innovative and sustainable design solutions for the bathroom space of the future. 


The contest aims to provide a platform for design and architecture professionals and students under 40 years of age to demonstrate their talent. This is the 8th edition of this biennial event that, since its inauguration in 2004, has had the participation of more than 20,600 architects and designers, from more than 134 countries around the world - making it an event of reference in the field of design.


For this edition, jumpthegap specifiesthe guidelines to inspire and guide candidates on the design of their projects: surprising experiences, home, automation, an aging population and sustainability. The jury is made up of renowned personalities from the worlds of design and architecture, and chaired by the Brazilian architect Ruy Othake. The projects will be evaluated based on their approach to the values ​​of sustainability, and innovation as well as the benefits for the user, and  the overall presentation of the product. The prizes will be awarded to three categories: Professional (€ 10,000), Student (€ 10,000) and the special We Are Water Foundation sustainability prize (€ 6,000).

Registration closes on March 27, 2019, however projects can be sent until April 25. During the month of May a period of 'possibility of improvement' will be opened, before the final selection by the jury, during the month of June. The awards ceremony is once again scheduled to be held at the Disseny Hub Barcelona on October 10, 2019.
