A day to explore new creative trends in craftsmanship

A day to explore new creative trends in craftsmanship

April 12 sees the arrival of the III Workshop of Creativity and Trends, a day organized by the Design Museum of Barcelona for professionals in the creative sector. This year will be dedicated to exploring the universality and creativity of craftsmanship through a contemporary lens. Under the title CRAFTSMANSHIP: INNOVATION | REVOLUTION | PROJECTION, the day will explore the transformation of the discipline over recent years.

Two conferences and a series of creative workshops make up the program. The first will be the conference “Craftsmanship: Innovation” led by Kim Mannino, director at trends forecasting and analysis company, WGSN Live. During the conference, Mannino will talk about the concept of “Common Ground” a macro trend whereby people connect both locally in person and globally through social networks in a context of deglobalization.

Next, Jonathan Openshaw, editor at The Future Laboratory, will lead the second conference titled “Rethinking Tactile Craftsmanship in the Post-Digital Age”. Openshaw will reflect on the return to tactility practiced by certain contemporary artisans working in the digital age. Both conferences will be held in English, with instant translations in both Catalan and Spanish.

Different creative workshops called “Craftsmanship: Projection” will be held from 15h. Focusing on various areas of design, these workshops will give attendees a chance to participate in exercises centered around new production proposals that include new industrial and digital tools. The five creative workshops planned will focus on printed paper, typography, ceramics, furniture and sewing. Professionals from the sector, taking inspiration from their own works and those from the museum, will take this opportunity to analyze and go deeper into proposals of craftsmanship, production and the digital.
