School visits for all ages at the Design Museum
Who says that museums are only for adults? To show that this idea is totally wrong, the Museum of Design offers all kinds of guided tours and visits-workshops to bring their permanent collections to children of all ages.
The proposed activities cover various areas of design, ranging from fashion to the decorative arts. Each activity is linked to one of the permanent exhibitions of the Museum so that children can assimilate concepts and put them into practice.
The exhibition Dressing the Body. Silhouettes and fashion (1555-2015), for example, offers different visit proposals designed for children, students of Primary and ESO, Baccalaureate and training cycles. Primary and second grade children can discover, thanks to the activity Little Dressed Monsters, how dress affects the body and experiment with gesture and movement through drawing. The workshop-visits designed for children of older ages, instead, offer them to transform themselves into models, while activities for teens seek to develop their critical spirit regarding fashion through discussion.
Other exhibitions, such as Extraordinary! Collections of decorative and author-centred art offer activities related to decorative arts. These are visits that try to approximate the stories that are hidden behind the objects or which project a critical look at them by addressing concepts such as colonialism, consumer society or globalization.
Other activities offer the creation of graphics and a group project to create posters and demonstrate what graphic design work is like to students, or learn to analyze the objects to discover the functionality will of good design.
The Design Museum also organizes guided visits to the apartment-museum Casa Bloc. Students in ESO, Baccalaureate and training courses can also enjoy a series of special guided tours of the exhibitions.
