Barcelona City Council is launching a work process to define the future urban role of Avinguda del Príncep d’Astúries, in its course through the Sarrià - Sant Gervasi and Gràcia districts.
The goal behind this work is to prepare a proposal for the avenue's layout which responds to its technical diagnosis, prepared over the last few months, in relation to public space, green areas, cross-cutting connections between neighbourhoods and with future provisions of facilities and public and private mobility.
A participatory process has been arranged, to accompany this work, which will allow the main contributions, demands or proposals from the public to be considered, debated, studied and, if necessary, introduced into the project, in accordance with the work carried out.
As a result of an ongoing demand from the local residents in the neighbourhoods around Avinguda del Príncep d’Astúries for the avenue's traffic to be calmed, a drafting process based on previous studies was begun in 2015 to prepare a preliminary plan for redeveloping the avenue.
The main local interlocutor during the first stage of the roughly 18-month drafting process is the Avinguda del Príncep d’Astúries Local Residents' Platform, with whom work has been jointly carried out, in several work sessions, following the main criteria that have to apply to the proposed redevelopment. More specifically, meetings were held on 8 April, 26 May and 29 July.
Once the first draft was prepared, in September 2016, the second stage of the process was planned, to open participation from all associations and members of the public based or working in the avenue. Two meetings were proposed, one for participation and debate and the other for feedback and closure.
