The Special Tourist Accommodation Plan (PEUAT) provides the regulatory framework for urban planning and management criteria for Barcelona's tourist accommodation. Tourist accommodation includes hotels, tourist housing, tourist flats, youth hostels and university halls of residence, which are key Barcelona's tourist model and managing its impact on the city's neighbourhoods.
In order to draft this Plan, based on an analysis of the current situation regarding tourist accommodation in the city, Barcelona City Council pushed for some basic criteria and conditions to be drawn up with the main players involved that will govern it. These criteria were established and approved by sector and area, with a special emphasis placed on those neighbourhoods where tourist activity has a greater impact.
Following this process, the PEUAT began the various administrative stages and it was finally approved at the Full Council on 27 January 2017. The text entry into force with his publication in the Official Gazette of the Province of Barcelona (BOPB) on 6 March 2017.
