Mixtur Festival

April 5 - 9, 2017

The Mixtur Festival, an event devoted to exploratory music and interdisciplinary creativity, reaches its sixth edition with a programme that includes twenty-two concerts, eleven lectures and master classes, seven workshops and two round tables, presented over ten days at various venues around the city.

Taking place from March 30 to April 9, the festival will feature performances by firmly-established and pioneering ensembles in the field of contemporary music in Europe. The bill includes Proxima Centauri (France) and the percussion group Drumming Grupo de Percussão (Portugal), as well as Quatuor Diotima, who appear thanks to the cooperation between Mixtur and the “Sampler” series at L’Auditori. Dúo Lumínico, a Mexican two-piece formed by Rodrigo Sigal and Alejandro Escuer, will also bring their fusion of electronic music and acoustic instruments to the festival in what is an interdisciplinary combination of music and the new technologies. Moreover, the organisers have also invited one of Spain’s leading acts to the festival: Plural Ensemble, a Madrid-based group that has played a key role in promoting contemporary music our country.

The programme also includes other activities: two round tables, one devoted contemporary music in the classroom: challenges and opportunities, the other to programming and managing exploratory music in Europe; and eleven lectures and master classes, open to the public and presented by such prominent international composers as Pierluigi Billone, Richard Barrett, Miquel Bernat and Barry Guy.
