Responsible tourism

Do you know which measures to adopt countries to make a tourism responsible at home ours and in other countries?

Mark Twain, the author of the famous novel Les Aventures de Huckleberry Finn, said "to travel bush the prejudices and the ignorance, because of that we will never have a solid criterion about the people and the life if we seat in our corner of the world".

According to the World-Wide Organization of the Tourism (OMT), the tourism manifests like the activities that the persons carry out during their journeys and stays in places different to their usual environment, for a period of consecutive time lower to one year, with purposes of leisure, businesses and other motives.

The tourism nowadays is an important source of incomes for many countries and it is the economic sector that one of the projections of growth stronger has. It is calculated that more than 500 million persons in the world travel every year abroad for out of pleasure.

In spite of this good datum, it is demonstrated that the tourism can have negative impacts about the environment and the culture of the local populations. The environmental impact related with the development of the tourism in natural zones of countries of the south is a very worrisome subject. In many of the most frequent destinations, the natural areas have been damaged or destroyed by the excess of construction and an irresponsible development.

Another impact to take into account it is the cultural one. As the tourism arrives to the remotest places, the impact about the local cultures is unavoidable. The flow of the values, the money and the foreign goods alter the natural environment and the culture in an irreversible way.

To minimize these and other impacts some years ago a new proposal of alternative tourism that has adopted the denomination of responsible tourism, a respectful option with the environment and with the cultures of the environment, has appeared. From this point of view, the responsible tourism does not turn up specific like a type or model of tourism, but like a movement in favor of the sostenibilitat of the touristic action that articulates through an extense gamma of actions that can be synthesized in three axes:

to) to establish sustainable and specific models of touristic development for each zone of fate, respecting the autochthonous social, cultural, economic and environmental variables
b) to denounce the negative impacts that the tourism entails or can suppose in the local societies and in their environment, and at the same time to implicate itself and to back up in the affected collectives
c) to appraise and to claim the responsibility of tourists, tour operators, hosts and institutions

One of these modalities of responsible tourism is the Ecoturism. We can describe it like "that modality of sustainable tourism that it consists to visiting natural and seminatural areas with the goal to have fun, appreciating and studying natural attractive (landscape, gea, flora and fauna wild), as well as the cultural patrimony that can be it, through a process that promotes the conservation and favors the development of the local population".

In the Ecoturism the travellers they choose small local hotels instead of big hotel chains, they move in public transport, go shopping in small trades or cooperatives, are careful with the natural environment that they visit, etc and these small actions benefit in the country that accommodates us. The person who travels responsibly does not force in the autochthonous population to adapting oneself to their tastes and needs, on the contrary, he adapts to the habits, beneficiary goes out and learns of the experience. On the other hand, for being well received it is necessary that the tourist is respectful with the local traditions.

This type of alternative tourism what it is:

- The protection of the fragile ecosystems

- The protection of habitats and species in danger of extinction

- The conservation of the native cultures

- The development of sustainable local economies

- Direct financial benefits for the conservation and the local populations

- The fulfillment of the universal human rights and of the work laws

Some of the advices that can be to make a responsible tourism are:
