5 reasons to visit Design Does

The exhibition  «Design Does. For better or for worse» will open on the evening of Friday, 23rd March, and will be completely free to visit until 13th May. But what makes this exhibition unmissable? Whether you are a design student, passionate about sustainability or simply someone curious about the future of design, we offer you five reasons why you should come and see it at the Museu del Disseny.

Responsibility of the design

This is the leitmotiv of the show. And it is one in which design has an impact both on industry, on the human aspect, on social systems and on cultural values. This is the case with the refugee flag, designed by the Syrian artist Yara Said to give this group an identity, particularly through the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Glocal projects

Throughout the exhibition you will find 15 projects worked on by designers at the local and international level, which explain what role the designer has, that of being a provider of solutions, a humanist, a strategist and/or an agent of change. Sometimes they work collectively to shape the global challenges of our society, sometimes to improve things and sometimes to the contrary.

Visions of the Future

Sustainability, connectivity, marginalisation, consumerism, innovation and new materials are aspects that concern us all in facing the future. For this reason, we want to establish a dialogue with the citizens, encouraging participation and the generation of knowledge that nourishes the transdisciplinary practice of design. How will we feed 10,000 million people? Can we live without plastic? Can you design what can not be seen?

Betting on the alumni

Beyond being a co-production by the Museu del Disseny of Barcelona and the ELISAVA University School of Design and Engineering Barcelona, the exhibition has opted for a curatorial collaboration between Laura Clèries of ELISAVA and Pau Garcia and Dani Pearson of Domestic Data Streamers, a Barcelona start-up comprising former alumni from the same design school, and which investigates new forms of communication through data.

The voices of professionals

In parallel to Design Does, you will be able to participate in the Design Does Forum, a set of conferences aimed at professionals and students, which will provide us with different perspectives from the academic, business and science world. They will help us explore, reflect upon and debate how the global challenges facing the planet are shaping the future of design.
