MUHBA Volunteers Programme
The MUHBA volunteers programme is for people who are willing to devote some of their free time to carrying out tasks at MUHBA without payment and in accordance with the museum's programme objectives.
Relations between volunteers and MUHBA are bound by current regulations (Law 6/1996, 15 January, and Law 15/1991, 13 December, by which the Institut Català del Voluntariat was created). The regulations specify that the service provided must never be a substitute for paid work, and that the professional profile and abilities of the person interested in becoming a volunteer must be appropriate for the work involved.
Enrolling volunteers for MUHBA must be carried out in accordance with the institution’s needs and according to the conditions agreed, on one hand, by the head of the volunteers programme designated by the Museum, and on the other, by the individual volunteers themselves.
The Volunteer’s commitment to MUHBA
- To fulfil all responsibilities agreed with the MUHBA with respect to its regulations and the duration of the post.
- To be available at the times/days agreed with the Museum to carry out the required tasks or, in the event of unforeseen circumstances, to give the Museum Coordinator sufficient notice so that another volunteer can be found as a replacement, if necessary.
- To respect, where appropriate, the confidentiality of the information received within the duration of the volunteer's activity.
- To refuse any material compensation that the volunteer might receive from beneficiaries related to his/her actions.
- To carry out the programme of activities to which he/she is assigned, efficiently and in accordance with his/her skills and knowledge.
- To participate in all the necessary training seminars organised for activities, as well as in other training actions that the Museum might deem necessary to maintain the quality of its services.
- To use the organisation’s accreditation and identifying badges in a correct, appropriate way.
- To respect and take good care of all material resources that the museum provides to the volunteer for the tasks assigned.
MUHBA's commitment to its volunteers
- To publicly acknowledge the importance of the work carried out by volunteers (for example, by including their name onto the list of credits for activities in the museum’s graphic media), and the social value of their contributions.
- To provide them with a certificate accrediting their work at the Museum, and ratified by the association "Voluntaris 2000".
- To provide identifying accreditation specifying the person’s status as a volunteer, to enable them to freely enter and move around the museum’s premises.
- To furnish all the necessary information, orientation and support from the technical team at MUHBA and the material resources for the implementation of the tasks agreed.
- To provide all volunteers with free membership of the programme Friends of MUHBA (‘preferential’ category), thereby granting them access to all the programme’s advantages.
- To provide insurance cover against the risks of accident and illness that might derive directly from the exercising of the volunteer's activities, and for the civil and heritage responsibility for damage caused to third persons, for the amounts and sums established by law.
- To ensure that all volunteers carry out their activities in conditions of suitable safety and hygiene, in accordance with the characteristics of said activities.
- Wherever necessary, the museum staff will be responsible for training volunteers to enable them to carry out the tasks with which they have been entrusted.
