About us

As Councillor for Commerce, Consumer Affairs and Markets at Barcelona City Council I am pleased to welcome you to the new commerce website, a space that is being updated and renovated so it can become a direct and flexible information and communications tool between the city's authorities, residents and retailers. It is also an open gateway to participate through the numerous interaction possibilities that social networks offer.

Enterprise and business support are among the main priority areas in our government action. That is why our website gives the lowdown on all the technical and legal requirements needed for starting up a business. It also keeps information aimed at businesses already up and running, such as the “Good Practices Code”, and promotes associations, one of the cornerstones of the Barcelona commercial model and another of our strategic goals.

Our municipal roadmap promotes greater public interaction with commerce. This is the goal behind our search for involvement and support for a broad range of recreational and leisure offerings that the city's commercial network organises, such as fairs and exhibitions. All these initiatives enrich citizen coexistence and are important in strengthening our commitment to a vibrant local commercial model that is capable of constantly renewing itself and finding creative formulas for winning over the public.

Let's not forget that analysing the sector is key to ensuring the ongoing innovation and adaptation currently needed. Hence the documents you have at your disposal with figures and data confirming the importance of Barcelona's commerce within the city's economic structure. Studies, surveys and publications prepared by the Commerce and Consumer Affairs Department complement the material that enables a more in-depth understanding of the reality of Barcelona's commerce.

All these sections are imbued with the spirit of the city's new Commercial Promotion Plan which aims to establish a local, professional, pluralistic, rich and innovative commercial network within the next three years. I invite you to share this engaging project and to be enthusiastic and ambitious in building a city where commerce plays a decisive role.
