COLLABORATION WITH THE GENERALITAT'S DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE FOR ISSUING SENTENCES INVOLVING WORK FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE COMMUNITY AND MEDIATION AND REPARATION PROGRAMMES
The City Council has been renewing its commitment to working with the Generalitat of Catalonia's Justice Department since 1991, to promote alternative penal measures as well as mediation and reparation programmes for minors.
These are either sentences (court rulings) issued by a judge or court for someone who has committed an offence or petty crime or social education programmes for minors.
- They are either direct punishments or substitutes for a fine or prison sentence.
- More effect when it comes to the re-education and social insertion of the convicted person.
- Less de-socialising than a prison sentence.
- Cheaper for taxpayers.
They involve unpaid work or training or treatment programmes that have to be of public use, social interest or a benefit to the community.
