Paris, Turin, Lyon and Barcelona are amongst the members of a European network of cities that have joined together to exchange experiences, strategies and processes for implementing measures and policies concerning uses of time.
Urban environments are undergoing changes that affect their populations, and one of the most important is the diversification of working times, which also involves making adjustments to services. The network focuses on such issues as public transport, family care and opening times for shops and services.
The network holds an annual meeting to report on progress and initiatives in the member cities.
In 2005, seeking to establish a forum for thought and debate on local time policies, Barcelona Provincial Council launched the Network of Cities and Towns for New Uses of Time.
The network, whose work focuses on strategic and transversal planning for uses of time in local policy, promotes lifelong training for local authority officers responsible for implementing new projects throughout the territory.
