A privileged tour of restricted spaces in Barcelona’s museums
Seventeen cultural facilities will be opening up their most secret spaces for visitors to discover the other side of their heritage on 1 March. The free registration period opens on Monday, 17 February, at 10 am.

Formerly known as In Museu, “Museu endins” is a day that offers a chance for visitors to discover museums’ reserve collections, restoration labs and documentary archives, guided by professionals who work there every day. As the slogan for the current edition indicates, this is a chance to enjoy the other side of museums. This year’s event is on Saturday, 1 March. Tours are free to book, with the registration period opening on Monday, 17 February.
Besides the change of name, another new aspect compared to last year is the inclusion of the Arxiu Fotogràfic de Barcelona and the Museu d’Arqueologia de Catalunya. In all, seventeen centres will be offering guided tours of their premises. Recommended for children from the age of 12, the activity allows members of the public to visit spaces such as the Font de Mercuri, by Alexander Calder, at the Fundació Joan Miró, and the preventive conservation and restoration lab at the Museu de Ciències Naturals de Barcelona – Castell dels Tres Dragons.
Each centre organises different visiting hours and, in many cases, several options and spaces to discover. For instance, the Museu Marítim de Barcelona is offering six types of visit: the general archive, the conservation and restoration archive, the traditional ship-building yard and the photography reserves, documentary collections and collections. Elsewhere, the Museu Picasso de Barcelona offers a choice of exploring its knowledge and research centre or the museum reserves.
The goals of “Museu endins” include giving visibility to the work of museums as guardians of history and culture, as well as bringing heritage closer to members of the public.
Full details on participating centres, times and reservations can be found on the “Museu endins” website.
