The underground water network of Vila de Gràcia

We invite you to come and take part in a visit and workshop aimed at secondary school students to find out about the Municipal Archives of the District of Gràcia (AMDG). This activity offers the chance to find out about the Archives, as well as doing a research activity using primary sources.

The activity is in two parts. The first part is a visit to the archive centre where students are shown the process a document goes through from when it arrives at the Archives until it is consulted by users. The second part is a workshop with the aim of investigating and thinking about the district during a particular time in history by using different types of documents.

Learning objectives of the activity:

  • Find out about the functions of the Municipal Archives of the District of Gràcia.
  • Find out the different kinds of documents kept at these archives.
  • Analyse the various writing supports used throughout history.
  • Relate the different departments with the function they perform.
  • Reflect on the importance of conserving documents, a source of historical knowledge.
  • Find out how documents are classified and organised once they arrive at the Archives.
  • Find out about the construction of the sewerage system in Vila de Gràcia.

Educational levels: compulsory secondary education.

Approximate duration of the activity: 2 hours.

Price: free.

Bookings: by phone 932 177 183 or by email amdg@bcn.cat
