Get to know the Sants-Montjuïc District Municipal Archive
The purpose of this initiative is to tell students about the functions and services of the District Archives. It enables them to go on a guided tour of the Archives' facilities, see the spaces and learn about the processes that go on there: classification, description, selection and removal, digitisation, conservation and so on.
They will see the district’s past and present reflected in different supports and formats (text documents, photographs, maps, posters, etc.) from various sources (including municipal, company, association and personal records, etc.).
The activity is adapted to the content of the curriculum at each educational level and to the needs of the students, enabling them to get a taste of historical research and administrative management.
Its learning goals are to:
- Point out the municipal archives’ functions and services.
- Explain the history of the city’s neighbourhoods and districts.
- Make use of the municipal archives and their documentary records.
- Foster appreciation of a public information, culture and leisure service that is free of charge and open to everyone.
- Stimulate interest in local historical and cultural heritage.
Educational levels: compulsory and post-compulsory secondary education.
Approximate duration of the activity: 1 hour.
Price: free.
