Let’s explore the Sants-Montjuïc Archives and discover the past through photographs
We offer a tour-workshop so middle-cycle primary school students can get to know the Sants-Montjuïc District Municipal Archives. This activity will also give the boys and girls a chance to learn about the work archivists do and appreciate the value of our records as patrimonial testimony of the past and a management tool for municipal Administration.
The activity is split into two parts. The first involves a tour of the archive centre to show students the route a document follows from the moment it arrives here to when it can be consulted by archive users. The second part is a research workshop using photographs, where they research and reflect on the value of the photographs and the information they provide us with.
Its learning goals are to:
- Learn about the functions of the Sants-Montjuïc District Municipal Archives.
- Find out the different kinds of documents kept at these archives.
- Relate the spaces to their function: classification, description, digitisation, restoration, conservation and so on.
- Analyse the various writing supports used throughout history.
- Appreciate the importance of conserving documents, a source of historical knowledge.
- Get to know the professions linked to the conservation, treatment and dissemination of these documents.
- See the changes that have occurred over the years in the transport, the clothes, the trades and the shops.
Educational levels: middle cycle of primary education.
Approximate duration of the activity: 2 hours
Price: free.
