In Barcelona in the 1950s, whether explicitly or implicitly, many professions were inaccessible to women. One such profession was photography.


Carme Garcia was an exception, who like other members of the Grup Femení de l’Associació de Fotògrafs de Catalunya (Feminine Group of the Photographers’ Association of Catalonia), provided a modern view, paving her own way. Snatching time between family obligations, for decades she converted the roof terraces of her home and of her neighbours’ into the perfect lookout and photographic studio. It is on the terraces and in the streets where much of city life takes place.
