An exceptional, never-before-seen journey through more than 250 images reveals all the nuances in the relationship between Picasso and the Modernista artist par excellence: Santiago Rusiñol. Starting out with a profound admiration for Rusiñol as a figure and as an artist, Picasso set off along a path that led him to take on some of the artist’s postulates and arguments, before going through a process of phagocytosis – to echo the term used by the exhibition curator, Eduard Vallès – and distancing himself from him almost definitively through satire and caricaturisation. This path – illustrated exceptionally by the 21 portraits Picasso made of Rusiñol – constitutes a prime example of the creative and life processes pursued by the painter from Málaga.
