There is a nostalgia that does not commemorate, restore or exalt the past. It is a nostalgia that makes the most of hindsight to reflect on history, but, from within, aware of the need to ignore the physical and temporal distance in order to recognise the interdependence between the individual and the group, and thereby recover the connection between memory and utopia. With this critical yet affectionate eye, for the artists of this exhibition remembering is an act of rewriting, one that includes doubt, irony and unattainable desire. This exhibition offers a space of resistance and possibility, countering the custom of spinning events into consumable museum exhibits: a space of nostalgic dissidence.
