The Professional Association of Illustrators of Catalonia (APIC) has given awards to the illustrated display area in the Sala Ciutat bookshop at the city hall and the latest work to be exhibited there. The Junceda awards recognise the quality and creativity of artists and spaces promoting illustration.
The award of honour for this year’s edition of the Junceda awards went to the Altell I·lustrat at the Sala Ciutat, a display space showcasing the talent of illustrators through Barcelona-inspired works. The jury emphasised the contribution of the display space in the city’s cultural development.
At the same time, the award for the non-fiction book for adults and children went to the illustrations of the artist Pau Gasol Valls for the re-edited version of Barcelones, by Manuel Vázquez Montalbán. The final work is true to the strong iconography of the book and can be seen in the Sala Ciutat through until the autumn, as well as in the compilation Altell Il·lustrat, which brings together all the works presented in this display space since April 2016.
The display in the Altell Il·lustrat is renewed twice a year via a competition open to creators from here and further afield who offer a personal and original vision of the urban landscape. Besides the illustration display area, the Sala Ciutat bookshop specialises in works portraying the city in all its diversity.
