People of Barcelona

Joan Obiols Vié was an eminent psychiatrist and academic. Besides his glittering professional career, he was a man of an extraordinary vitality, drive and intellectual curiosity. He enjoyed quoting the classical aphorism: “nothing human is alien to me”. His interests and hobbies were manifold: music, literature, philosophy, theatre, art, cinema, photography, collecting, gastronomy, and more. He often established links between psychiatry and these artistic fields: he was one of the pioneers in Catalonia of psychodrama and music therapy techniques, and he was also a driving force in the field of the psychopathology of expression, closely related to the so-called art brut (raw art). A humanist doctor in the broadest sense of the word.
