The proclamation of the Republic on 14 April 1931 unexpectedly placed Barcelona in the hands of a series of politicians with a clear revolutionary and transformative temperament, intent on shaking the city's political foundations. This book reveals, in chronological order, a turbulent and frenetic period, with numerous crises and changes of government, against the backdrop of an intense battle of wills between the new representatives of the Republican parties and the defenders of a set of privileges and old structures who refused to give up the position they had maintained up until that time.
The book also goes into greater detail than ever before on the initiatives of the municipal authorities in different areas of municipal policy and the approval of a series of projects, cut short by the Civil War, that would have radically transformed the city of Barcelona that we know today.
