Live Souls is a book of 210 photographs taken by Alec Wainman, who came from England in 1936 and was an ambulance driver during the Spanish Civil War. The photographs were taken without any artistic pretensions but there is an underlying sensitivity that can only be felt by someone who came here risking his own life to save the lives of strangers who spoke a language he could barely understand. An indispensable eyewitness account that throws light on the forgotten fighters of the Republic.
