Mobility. The 880 metre facility will start at Av. Diagonal and run between Parc de Cervantes and the links to the B-23, going under the Ronda de Dalt.
The 880 metre path will go under the Ronda de Dalt and the various road links between the ring road and the B-23 before joining Av. Països Catalans at Esplugues de Llobregat.
The project, promoted by the Àrea Metropolitana de Barcelona, will have different sections for pedestrians and cyclists and will be built on the side nearest the mountains along the last stretch of Av. Diagonal, making use of the slope at the Parc de Cervantes, next to the B-23.
The project is aimed at making it easier for more sustainable means of transport, such as bicycles, to play their part in reducing pollution and looking after people’s health, as well as connecting Av.Diagonal in Barcelona with Av. Països Catalans in Espugues de Llobregat.
What will the path be like?
The path creates a new space for public use with an area of 8,283 square metres, a minimum width of 3.8 metres, and gradients of less than 4% along most of its route. Two small recreational areas will also be created, with wooden benches and waste bins, offering resting spots and acting as viewpoints for Av. Diagonal. These spots will also be linked to the paths in Parc de Cervantes via staircases with wooden steps, creating a connection between the park and the new path.
Linear lighting will be installed along the handrail which will accompany the path as far as the most built-up area of Av. Països Catalans, where existing lighting already provides illumination. Underpasses along the path will use projectors to provide extra light.
Work starts in June
The calendar for the path means the safety plan for work should be in place at the end of May, with work to begin in June. The project is expected to take ten months, with the path due for completion in April 2017.
