How will transport users be compensated for travel cards that expired during the stage of emergency?

Mobility and transport. As of 1 July, validated ticked not used since 13 March will have their lost days re-incorporated.

Compensation begins on 1 July for integrated monthly and quarterly travel cards that expired during the state of emergency caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Tickets that have not been used since 13 March will have their expiry dates postponed when validated by a machine. Tickets that have been used will need to have their compensation applied for online. Both options will be available throughout 2020.

For automatic compensation, the requirements vary according to whether the travel card is monthly or quarterly.

  • T-usual, T-grup and T-familiar: these travel cards can have their expiry dates postponed provided they were purchased before 14 March but not used between 14 March and 11 April.
  • T-trimestre, T-jove and T-70/90 FM/FN: these travel cards can have their expiry dates postponed provided they were purchased before 14 March and not used between 14 March and 10 June.

Once you validate your travel card, a new validity date will start. It is important you do that on or after 1 July. If you mistakenly validate your card before that date, the machine will not postpone its expiry date and you will have to apply for compensation online.

What do I do if I have already used my travel card?

Anyone unable to receive automatic compensation will have to apply for it online, and the Metropolitan Transport Authority (ATM) will have to examine each case to determine whether there is an entitlement to compensation.

Compensation will be given for using travel cards between 2 and 9 April, when public transport was free for all essential-services workers.

Compensation travel cards generated online can be collected as of 1 September at collection points to be announced later on.
