Two-wheeled vehicles take centre stage on Sunday in a civic and recreational event at the Arc de Triomf. The wheels start turning for the Bicycle Festival at 9.30 am with the Bicicletada, a popular bike ride for cyclists of all ages around a central 12 km route. The start point is at the junction between C/ Aragó and C/ Roger de Flor, and the ride ends up in Passeig Lluís Companys. The fun continues there with a fair for entities and associations promoting sustainable mobility, as well as a wide array of activities and workshops for young and old alike. There will also be talks, races, games, circuits for electric bikes, and even a display of old bikes. A supervised secure bike parking zone will also be available. The initiative is aimed at promoting the use of bicycles as a regular form of transport and providing information on regulations for their use in the city.

A big family festival for culture and free time activities

The Parc de la Ciutadella hosts the most educational, fun and inclusive edition of the Tamborinada, coinciding with the 40th anniversary of the Fundació La Roda. The slogan for the occasion is ‘40è aniversari, fem festa, fem cultura, fem barris’ [40th anniversary, let’s celebrate, let’s create culture, let’s build neighbourhoods] and the association is organising a big free family festival involving a thousand volunteers from all over Catalonia. Over sixty children’s workshops and games are being laid on, based around solidarity, respect for others and the environment, education and creativity. There will also be entertainment from clowns, magicians and popular culture groups. This year’s Tamborinada, which also turns forty, features the face of the veteran clown from Manresa, Marcel Gros, an authentic act who has been donning a red nose for over thirty years.

Musical day with fifty simultaneous free concerts

Some 2,500 students from music schools will be taking part in the Festival Simfònic on Saturday, offering fifty free concerts simultaneously around unique locations in the city as from 6 pm. Choose between classical formations such as symphony orchestras, chamber music, piano recitals and choral singing, as well as swing and jazz concerts, gospel choirs, electronic music and even traditional and popular music. The group Sopa de Cabra provide the face for this seventh edition of the festival and will be performing the song Camins at 7 pm. The festival will also fill other iconic locations around Catalonia and the Balearic Islands.
