Besides the city’s firefighters, their counterparts from the rest of Catalonia, the Vall d’Aran and Andorra are all involved in the calendar.
The chosen scenario today’s photos for the Barcelona Fire Service was the lab at the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu. Besides two members from the corps, the protagonists were the researcher Dr. Ángel Montero Carcaboso, and two girls: Bella, a 6-year-old cancer patient, and her 7-year-old cousin.
This edition of the ‘Bombers amb causa 2021’ solidarity calendar is special as it marks the project’s tenth anniversary. The first edition was developed from an initiative by three volunteers from the Government of Catalonia’s fire service, with the idea of raising money for research into child illnesses. Since 2018, funds have also been used for social support projects for children at risk of social exclusion.
Photos for a cause
The goal of the calendar is to represent the four different firefighting corps which participate in the initiative through equipment which is typical of each of them. The idea is to generate bonds between children and the firefighters’ corps in a fun way, giving the youngsters a recreational moment, more necessary than ever due to the restrictions for the Covid-19 health emergency.
Various prestigious photographers have selflessly been involved in the solidarity calendar from the start, meaning the photos in the calendar are of high quality. Francesc Plana Rafi took the pictures for the Barcelona firefighters for this year’s calendar.
