Barcelona will host the World Social Forum of Transformative Economies, which will gather more than 10,000 people from the five continents in 2020 and will bring together all those initiatives that are building a real alternative to the current economic and financial system worldwide. The initiative is organized by the Network of Solidarity Economy of Catalonia (XES) and the Intercontinental network for the promotion of social solidarity economy RIPESS, with the support of Generalitat de Catalunya and the Barcelona City Council.
In the launch of the event, the first deputy mayor Gerardo Pisarello showed municipal support for a Forum “that will show that there is an antidote to the neoliberal policies that have prevailed in recent times”. According to Pisarello, this meeting “will be useful to make visible that there are many practices that work all over the world and show that it is possible to organize ways of consuming and producing based on cooperation, on economic democracy and that place in the center the people and the planet, away from an economic model based on speculation and on obtaining benefits at any price and in the short term”.
The Forum will take place in two stages: first meeting of confluence in the spring of 2019 (three-day meeting with representatives of networks, social movements, university research groups and members of municipalism) and celebration of the WSF of Transformative Economies in the spring of 2020.
