CLOSURE OF THE CASTLE FROM 3:00 PM DUE TO THE GENERAL STRIKE OF 08/03/2018
The Castle of Montjuïc will close its doors after 3pm due to the general strike. On 09/03/2018 the Castle will reopen at its usual time.
The Castle presents to the media the new reception area and the graffiti from the dungeons
On February 27, the Castle received the visit of the media, guided by the Memory Program Commissioner, the Director of History, Memory and Heritage and two archaeologists. The media visited the new reception area of the castle and discovered the graffiti from the dungeons. During the visit was announced that the dungeons will be opened to the public only with guided tours, starting from March 15th.
Spring / summer timetable at the Castle
Montjuïc Castle begins its spring / summer timetable on March 1st with the following opening hours: from Monday to Sunday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.
This timetable will be valid until November 1st. Ticket prices will not vary and the entrance to the Castle will continue to be free every first Sunday of the month, and on Sunday afternoons from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m
Monday 12th February - Open day at the Castle, Santa Eulàlia’s Day
To celebrate Santa Eulàlia’s Day, patroness of Barcelona, the Castle will be holding an open day. The entrance to the site will be free of charge all day. People attending the Castle will be able to visit the Visitor Center of Montjuïc, the temporary exhibition "Nazis and fascists, the symbolic occupation of the city 1939-1945" "and the artistic intervention" WELCOME "by Ciprian Homorodean.
Nazis and fascists, the symbolic occupation of Barcelona (1939-1945)
On Monday 20 November, it will be the opening of the exhibition "Nazis and fascists, the symbolic occupation of Barcelona (1939-1945)”. The exhibition is a harsh, graphic chronicle that makes no concessions to an ill-hidden past. After the fall of Barcelona into the hands of the Francoist troops, the new regime mirrored Hitler's Germany and Mussolini's Italy in order to eradicate any trace of the Red, Republican and Catalanist past of the city.
Open Day on 23th, 24th & 25th setember. The Merce Festival
Montjuïc Castle will hold an open days to celebrate the Mercè Festival in 23th, 24th & 25th September. Entrance to the castle premises will be free of charge all day.
Summer programme at Montjuïc Castle
Summer is here. Montjuïc Castle presents a summer programme full of fresh and interesting proposals. Temporary exhibitions, concerts in the open air, an intervention artwork and family activities will brighten the summer period at the Castle.
Exhibition. "Battle of Montjuïc. Defending the city from the Castle"
The temporary exhibition "Battle of Montjuïc. Defending the city from the Castle" is going to open on Thursday 15 June at room 19 of the parade ground.
Battle of Montjuïc was the combat that took place on 26 January 1641 in Montjuïc mountain in Barcelona seven months after the popular uprising known as the “Corpus de Sang” (Corpus of Blood, 7 June 1640).
The exhibition is mainly narrated by the artwork that artist Pere Ginard has specialy created for the occasion. Twelve large-format images which recreate events, characters and scenes using a very personal technique, which combines engraving, photography or drawing to configure a whole from a very original point of view. The illustrations are accompanied by short informative texts written by the historian Dani Cortijo and that, through chapters, report the events, from the arrival of the Castilian troops to the victory of the Catalan hosts.
"Vespres de Juliol". Open air concerts at Montjuïc Castle
The Castle of Montjuïc presents the series “Afternoons of July”. On Sundays in July (the 2nd, the 9th, the 16th and the 23rd) from 7pm to 10pm, you can come to the Castle and relax in a privileged environment enjoying a night of good music and great views to the sea. Jazz, Bossa nova, Dixieland and Soul will make the evenings of July very nice and special. Both the shows and the entrance to the Castle are free from 3pm on Sunday. A free shuttle bus service between the Castle and Plaza España is provided from 9.30pm.
Nights at the Castle series
The “Nits al Castell” (“Nights at the Castle”) series returns on Friday nights to the parade ground for the third year. For three nights in June, the Castle will be transformed into a place where you may enjoy artistic performances, taste the culinary delights of the travelling food caravans and enjoy nighttime views of the city from the Castle terrace Access to the activities and to the rest of the premises will be free of charge starting at 8 pm. Starting at 10 pm, the Castle will provide a free shuttle bus service to Plaça d’Espanya.
The Night of Museums 2017
The Night of Museums 2017 took place last Saturday May the 20th at the Castle and has left us a great influx of visitors, innovative artistic experiences and a very good taste in the mouth thanks to the good food served at the food court.
Giant puppets at the parade ground
The family activities series brought the show Titeretú to the Castle. Participants were able to try the fabulous machines that transform people who step on them into human puppets. The activity was a great success and each and every participant enjoyed the challenge posed by Titeretú machines.
Next Sunday 21 the family activities series continues with the clown show "Smiles in the suitcase" and a chocolate lollipops decorating workshop.
Open Day on Thursday 18th May. International Museum Day
Montjuïc Castle will hold an open day to celebrate the International Museum Day. Entrance to the castle premises will be free of charge all day. People visiting the castle that day will have access to the Montjuïc Visitor Centre as well as to the temporary exhibition "Montjuïc 100 years of posters".

Exhibition "Montjuïc 100 years of posters"
On April 06 is the openning of the exhibition "Montjuïc 100 years of posters" which will be displayed at room 20 of the parade ground of the castle. The exhibition shows the most relevant events that have taken place in Montjuïc, from the twentieth century to the present, through the most iconic posters from all periods.
Free entrance to the Castle of Montjuïc on the first Sunday of the month
From Sunday 02 April every first Sunday of the month the entrance to the Castle of Montjuïc will be free all day. This new rate is added to the free entry of every Sunday of the year from 3pm. Take advantage of the first Sunday of the month to visit the Castle, know its architecture, revive its memory and enjoy the best views of the city for free!
Familiar activities series, 2017
The Castle of Montjuïc presents the family activities series of 2017. On Sunday evenings from 4 to 7 pm in April and May, the Castle of Montjuïc will host a series of activities for the entire family. The parade ground will be transformed into a labyrinth, giant puppets will visit the castle, you’ll be able to learn to ride a unicycle and to spin a diabolo, there will be concerts for singing and dancing and there will be workshops to make handicrafts. Access to the Castle and the activities will be free of charge. Everybody is invited.

The spring programme of the Castle of Montjuïc is now ready. A new temporary exhibition, two series of cultural activities and the Night of Museums will be the highlights of the Castle during the months of April, May and June.
Cycle of activities “Afternoons of July”
The Castle of Montjuïc presents the cycle “Afternoons of July”. On Sundays in July (the 3rd, the 10th, the 17th and the 24th), from 7pm to 10pm, you can come to the Castle and relax in a privileged environment enjoying a night of good music and great views to the sea.
Jazz, Boss nova, Soul and Jazz Manouche concerts will make the nights of July very nice and special. The concerts begin at 7.30pm. Both the shows and the entrance to the Castle are free. A shuttle bus service between the Castle and Plaza España is provided from 9.45pm to 10.30pm.
Cycle of shows “Nights of Summer” at the Castle of Montjuïc
The cycle "Nights of Summer" will be held, once again, on Fridays during the month of June in the Parade Ground of the Castle. For three nights, the 3rd, the 10th and the 17th of June, the Castle will be a place to enjoy artistic performances and delicious food truck dishes. The entrance to the Castle is free after 8pm and the performances are also free of charge. A shuttle bus service between the Castle and Plaza España is provided from 10pm to midnight.
