Begoña Román

Begoña Román, born in Petrer, Alicante, in 1965, holds a PhD in philosophy from the University of Barcelona and is a professor and vice-dean for research at the same faculty. She is a joint coordinator for the Government of Catalonia’s “Aporia: Contemporary Philosophy, Ethics and Politics” consolidated research group. Her area of expertise is bioethics and ethics applied to professional and organisational settings and, more recently, to artificial intelligence. She is the chair of the Social Services Ethics Committee of Catalonia, and a member of various research ethics and integrity committees, including the Bioethics Committee of Catalonia and the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona’s committees. She has also been the executive secretary of the Ethos Chair at Ramon Llull University, where she taught until 1997.

Her latest publications include Ética en los servicios sociales (Herder, 2016) and ¿Quo vadis, Universidad? (with Francisco Esteban, UOC, 2016). She has also contributed to joint works such as Violencia obstétrica: reflexiones desde la ética (Ediciones Permanyer, 2021) and Adolescencias: una mirada desde la ética (Asociación Española de Neuropsiquiatría, 2021).
