Carlota Subirós
Carlota Subirós, born in Barcelona in 1974, is an award-winning theatre director, playwright and translator who holds degrees in Stage Direction and Dramaturgy (Institut de Teatre) and Italian Language and Literature (University of Barcelona).
As a director, some of her notable productions include Doris Lessing’s The Golden Notebook (six critics’ awards in 2020), Tennessee Williams’s The Night of the Iguana and The Rose Tattoo, and Catalan classics such as Àngel Guimerà’s Sol solet and Maria Rosa, by Àngel Guimerà.
From the start of her career she has combined directing and staging plays with translation, and in that time she has translated over 20 plays by authors such as David Mamet, Luigi Pirandello and Wallace Shawn.
Between 2003 and 2011, Carla was part of the artistic direction team at the Teatre Lliure. Then, between 2013 and 2020, she was a member of the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya Reading Committee. She is currently a lecturer in the Dramaturgy and Staging Department at the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona.
