Daniel Gamper
Daniel Gamper, born in Barcelona in 1969, lecturer in Moral and Political Philosophy at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. His research centres on political philosophy, particularly theories of democracy, politics and religion.
He has published numerous articles on the role of religion in democratic societies, the limits of liberalism and the concept of tolerance. His notable works include La fe en la ciudad secular (Faith in the Secular City) (Trotta, 2004), Laicidad europea. Apuntes de filosofía política postsecular (European Secularism: Notes on Post-secular Political Philosophy) (Edicions Bellaterra, 2016) and De qué te ríes. Beneficios y estragos de la broma (What Are You Laughing At? Benefits and Ravages of the Joke) (Herder, 2024).
He has also translated works by Nietzsche, Scheler and Habermas. His work Las mejores palabras (The Best Words) (Anagrama, 2019) received the Anagrama Essay Prize in 2019. He contributes regularly to newspapers such as ARA and La Vanguardia. In collaboration with the CCCB, he has taken part in various events and debates and published interviews with authors such as Zygmunt Bauman, John Gray and Michael Walzer for the ‘Dixit’ collection (Katz and CCCB).
