Prague opens call to host writers and translators in residence for 2026
The programme, promoted by the Czech capital as a UNESCO City of Literature, offers two-month stays including accommodation, travel ticket, and a monthly grant.
The Prague City Council has opened the call for the literary residency programme taking place in 2026. Aimed at international writers and translators, the project offers a two-month stay in the Czech capital, intended to provide time and space for creative work and to encourage cultural exchange with the city. There are a total of 8 places available.
Selected residents will receive free accommodation, a return flight ticket, and a monthly grant of 15,000 Czech crowns (around 600 euros). The programme is divided into six periods throughout the year, and each author may indicate their preferred dates.
To be eligible, applicants must have at least one published literary work, or alternatively, two broadcast radio plays or scripts, one staged or published theatre piece, or a translation of a Czech author. Participants are expected to write a text inspired by their stay and to take part in public events organised in the city.
The application deadline is 18 August 2025 at 11:59 p.m. The selected candidates will be announced on 31 October 2025. If you’re interested, you must complete this online application form.
