Exeter opens call for applications for the Ronald Duncan Writing Stipends in Southwest England
It is an opportunity for writers from UNESCO Cities of Literature to explore the special archives of the University of the city.
The University of Exeter has announced the opening of the Ronald Duncan Stipends for Southwest Writing, an initiative aimed at encouraging literary creation from its collection of special archives. Funded by the Ronald Duncan Literary Foundation, the stipend offers financial support and access to exclusive materials so that writers from different backgrounds can develop new creative projects.
Each year, three grants are awarded to writers interested in exploring the university’s archives and creating innovative works inspired by the university’s archives. The 2025 call for applications includes a special collaboration with Exeter City of Literature, which will allow one of the grants to be awarded to a writer from another UNESCO City of Literature.
Those selected will receive a stipend of £2,000 to cover expenses, as well as up to £500 for dissemination activities. In addition, the international beneficiary will receive an additional grant of up to £1,000 for travel and accommodation. The experience includes specialised advice, a workspace and the possibility of participating in local and international literary events.
To be eligible for the fellowship, you must have a connection to a UNESCO City of Literature, demonstrate an interest in literary creation and be willing to travel to Exeter for the duration of the fellowship, which will run from September 2025 to August 2026.
Applications can be submitted until 15 June 2025. More information, here.
