The Institució de les Lletres Catalanes publishes a map of literary residencies
The initiative, part of the Pla Nacional del Llibre i la Lectura, identifies 41 spaces that host literary creation throughout the Catalan-speaking territory.
The Institució de les Lletres Catalanes (ILC) has taken a step forward in its support for literary creation with the publication of a map showing the literary residences in Catalan-speaking territories. This initiative is part of the Pla Nacional del Llibre i la Lectura (National Plan for Books and Reading) and aims to strengthen the links between creative centres and writers and translators.
In order to draw up this map, the ILC has held several conversations with agents of the literary sector, including writers’ associations, literary agencies and authors, to find out their needs and expectations with regard to creative residencies. In addition, a survey has been carried out to detect the residences that offer spaces for literary creation and to find out their characteristics.
The result of this study identified a total of 41 residencies with programmes that include literary creation. Of these, 21 centres host them on a stable and regular basis, while 20 do so sporadically. The criteria established to consider a residency as literary include explicitly incorporating literary creation among the disciplines they host and having supported literary creators in the last five years or planning to do so in the next two years.
The ILC encourages artistic residencies that host literary creation and that are not yet part of the list to contact the institution to be included in future updates. You will find more information on this link.
