Literature for young adults returns to University of Barcelona

The historic venue is hosting the second edition of Crush Fest, a great event that brings together authors, booktokers and the readers who follow them.

They say they aspire to be like one of those big music festivals in the city, but dedicated to literature and, more specifically, to literature for young people and young adults. And they will certainly succeed, given the success of the first edition last year in 2024. This year, Crush Fest returns to the historic site of University of Barcelona for two days, on 15 and 16 March. All with fairy tales as the theme.

The young adult literature sector has become a very popular phenomenon, especially since it has become common for young tiktokers to recommend the books they are reading to people like them. You can see that the so-called booktokers have a lot to do with this festival, which puts you in direct contact with the authors that fascinate them and, what’s more, offers you the chance to go home with a signed book.

The event includes meetings with authors, book presentations, book signings, round tables, literary matches, lectures, music, live podcasts, literary craft markets, pitches with professionals from the sector in which you can see how to present and sell a novel, story competitions and even a cosplay showcase, so that costume lovers can have a great time.

Among this year’s guests,  Kiersten White and Hannah Nicole Maehrer to Carrie Leighton. As headliners, names like the Argentine Mercedes Ron, who triumphed on the Wattpad platform with the trilogy Culpables (2017 – 2018), which already has a film and everything. Also Inma Rubiales who, with the very romantic El arte de ser nosotros (The Art of Being Us), established herself as an essential lead in the genre.

They and many other authors will talk to you at this event about their works and, in particular, about the many fairies who, in different ways and with different characteristics, also fill the literature aimed at young adults and adults. All fans are invited to attend the festival with a costume of any theme related to fairy tales.

Remember that, this year, Biblioteques de Barcelona is collaborating with Crush Festival and is organising a double reading club. The first event is on Saturday 15 February, at 12 noon, at the Sant Gervasi – Joan Maragall Library, and its theme is Judith Espígol‘s novel My Reason. The second session, however, will be part of Crush Fest on Saturday 15 March (1.15 pm) with Núria Fortuny and her novel Tots els moments amb tu as the theme. The book club will be led by the influencer and tiktoker Maryam Assakat, better known as @maryam.and.books.

If you want to know everything about young adult literature and meet the great stars of this world, don’t miss Crush Fest, but before you come check out the full programme on the website.
